Glorious blueberries, blackberries, violets, and hot stones. Cloves and other spices. Even sliced mushrooms. Full body, very firm tannins, and a persistent and savory finish. A tight and polished young cabernet.

Despite the raves this vintage has received from other critics—and I have enjoyed it very much on two previous occasions—the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon came across as a rather cedary, overly tannic effort on this occasion. There is plenty of youthful cherry fruit, ample concentration and a long (but hard, tough) finish, so I suspect there's still time for this wine to come around and blossom. Either this bottle was less than representative, or at the very least, now does not appear to be the best time to open a bottle.
