A strikingly complex, highly expressive and almost surprisingly elegant nose of spicy red and blue pinot fruit aromas nuanced by hints of violets and warm earth nuances that are also picked up by the rich and particularly full-bodied flavors that possess a natural sweetness, which serves to buffer the firm tannins on the wonderfully persistent finish. The fine balance is absolutely impeccable and the length is flat out amazing plus I love the underlying sense of tension. A simply superb Bonnes Mares but be prepared to have ample patience.

Bright red, not too deep. Aromas of raspberry, gingerbread, mocha, smoky herbs and earth; showed higher-pitched notes of rose petal, menthol, white pepper and mint with extended aeration. This lovely, suave, filled-in midweight conveys a sense of extract without weight. A pure, silky, elegant essence of soil, with red fruit, floral and spice flavors staining the palate yet showing uncanny delicacy. Finishes very subtle and long, with excellent tangy energy. Deceptively easy to taste today, but this should age beautifully on its balance.
