The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges is a stunning wine in the making, soaring from the glass with a beautiful bouquet of cassis, violets, wild plums, wood smoke and rich soil tones. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and multidimensional, with serious reserves of beautifully refined structuring tannin and concentrated fruit, concluding with a long and sapid finish. This is a stunning wine from the Chevillon brothers which could hold its own against most of the Côte de Nuits´ grands crus this year.

This is also quite spicy with a pretty and broad-ranging combination of red cherry, plum and violet aromas that are cut with warm earth hints. The big-bodied flavors possess a bit more minerality as well as more size, weight and evident power before culminating in a racy yet seductive finish that is very clearly built to age. This tautly muscular effort manages to be serious yet refined.

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru takes the oyster shell leitmotif that runs through many of Chevillon’s wines this year and ramps it up. This feels as if it was grown next to a muddy estuary. There is wonderful clarity and focus here. The masculine palate is battened down by the firm tannin, offering dense red fruit, hints of dark chocolate and orange peel and a dash of white pepper toward the finish.
