Pale, bright, green-tinged yellow. Captivating high-pitched perfume of white peach, anise, fresh herbs, mint, white pepper and crushed stone. Penetrating fruit flavors of lemon drop, peach and apple are complicated by salty and gingery nuances. Not a thick style but shows plenty of texture and intensity and finishes with subtle, rising perfume. Colin typically seeks to pick these vines "a bit later, with better ripeness," but this wine nonetheless conveys a light touch.

Strong sulfur pushes the underlying fruit to the background at present. Otherwise there is a beguiling sense of underlying tension to the more mineral-driven middle weight flavors that possess a lovely texture before terminating in a finely detailed, decidedly firm and youthfully austere finish. This almost delicate effort obviously needs to clean up the nose and to develop more depth to merit the upper end of my predicted range but I very much like the apparent potential.

One of the more reserved wines in the range, the 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Baudines unwinds in the glass with aromas of white flowers, almond paste, green apple and Meyer lemon. On the palate, it´s medium to full-bodied, satiny textured and deep at the core, with a blocky, somewhat rustic profile underpinned by incisive acids. This bottling is produced from purchased fruit.
