The 2018 Mazoyères-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a complex bouquet of pure brambly black fruit, crushed stone, undergrowth and subtle hints of cassis and violet that emerge with time. This is quite mercurial in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, wonderfully pitched acidity and a sense of harmony and precision that renders this perhaps the more graceful of the Mazoyères-Chambertins that Perrot-Minot has produced. Stunning.

Once again the nose is strikingly floral though with plenty of sauvage character suffusing the fresh mix of red and dark currant, earth and forest floor. The racy, intense and appealingly delineated larger-scaled flavors possess focused power on the balanced, clean and beautifully long finish. This is a big but harmonious effort that should age gracefully for many years.
