A discreet application of wood doesn't detract from the intensely floral red berry fruit and earth-inflected aromas. There is really lovely richness and volume to the caressing medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the balanced, complex and wonderfully persistent finale. This is much more civilized at present than its Mazoyères counterpart and should be approachable after "only" a decade or so of bottle age. This too is absolutely lovely.

Utilizing around 40% whole bunch fruit, the 2014 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru has a comparatively rich bouquet with layers of macerated red cherry fruit mixed with blueberry, the new oak coming through in pronounced fashion. The palate is sweet on the entry with grainy tannin, red cherries and wild strawberry, as well as a touch of orange rind with a spice note towards the structured finish that is Mazoyères-like in style. Give this a decade in bottle.
