Cellier Aux Moines

Cellier Aux Moines (also “Clos du Cellier aux Moines”, as it is known in official documents) is a Premier Cru vineyard of the Givry appellation in the Côte Chalonnaise sub-region of Burgundy. It produces red wines from the Pinot Noir grape variety.

With 10.8 hectares (26.7 acres) of vines this is the second largest of 38 Givry Premier Cru sites. It lies on south- to southwest-facing slopes a few hundred meters to the north of the centre of Givry village.

Cellier aux Moines means ‘The Monks’ Cellar’. This refers to the Cistercian monks who played a pivotal role in early Chalonnaise viticulture, likely establishing the vineyard in the 13th Century.
