The 2019 Marsannay La Charme aux Prêtres is showing beautifully, exhibiting pretty aromas of cherries, red berries, orange rind, plums and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, layered and lively, it's velvety and fine-boned, with a vibrant core of fruit and a long, saline finish. Readers will by now be familiar with my admiration for this Marsannay reference point, and Cyril Audoin's superb 2019 portfolio did nothing to change my opinion. As I've written before, these satiny and elegant wines, intensely flavorful but gently extracted, can stand just as proudly among the grander villages and premiers crus of the Côte de Nuits as they do among the local competition. The fact that this domaine is located in Marsannay simply means better value for the consumer. Certainly, a tasting with Audoin offers compelling testimony to the quality of this underestimated appellation's terroirs. I'll be going into greater detail later in 2021, as I'm planning a vertical tasting with Audoin to document just how well his wines age, as well as to explore the minutiae of his terroirs, viticulture and winemaking. This domaine continues to belong on any short list of the Côte de Nuits's finest values, and savvy consumers are once again advised to take note.

An attractively spicy nose combines notes of both red and dark berries with those of earth and a hint of humus character. There is once again a very generous mouthfeel to the medium-bodied flavors that still manage to be nicely precise on the more complex and slightly firmer finale. This is really quite good and worth considering.
